Research Lab Technician – Chemistry - University of Bradford

Job Description:
Main purpose of the role
To support a time-sensitive research project in the field of mechanochemistry (solvent-free synthesis). This involves developing manufacturing processes that allow for the elimination of solvent, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the manufacture of APIs and everyday commodities, for example. Particularly, the synthesis of advanced functional materials, in the absence of toxic solvent, will be the key focus of this role.
Main Duties
-The candidate will be trained to use ball mills and extruders, equipment already common in the chemical       industry, but not explored in degree programmes. Training in the use of Powder X-ray Diffraction and several   imaging techniques will be provided.
-The candidate will obtain experience of writing manuscripts for peer-review. 
-Opportunities to support presentations at virtual conferences and development of presentation skills.
-Support and train undergraduate students, developing leadership skills.

Weekly Wage: Minimum Wage – dependent on age

Working week - contracted hours / full time / part time: 25 Hour per week, Monday-Friday. To be agreed on Appointment.

Essential and desirable skills:
-Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including MS Word, Excel,   PowerPoint and email.
-Excellent written and oral communications–detail focused, accurate and clear  
-Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work
-Willingness to learn new skills. 
-Ability to work effectively as part of a team
-Excellent interpersonal skills
-Degree in Chemistry (or working towards)
