The pathways approach to local careers and skills development
Career Pathways represent an organisation of related occupational areas within a specific career sector. Bradford’s approach focuses on 15 industry areas. We work in partnership with a range of local businesses and organisations to help ensure that our pathways approach is sector-led.
Each of these pathways has identified knowledge & skills validated by industry from which programmes of study are developed. Using a standardised framework and approach will:
- Provide a clear, coherent local careers pathway framework and approach that is dynamic, comprehensive and reflects the lightening pace of technological change and globalisation
- The collaboration between employers and educators in direct response to the industry's current and future talent demands
- Improve transition and align current curriculum at secondary and post-secondary levels to industry needs, to develop career pathways with multiple entry and exit points
- Allow learners to receive instruction on a standardised learning pathways system and associated opportunities to work on real-life problems, side-by-side with industry and educators, using the latest technology
- Ensure young people have access to learning and local career pathways that support their career plans
- Where taught early enough to aid young people in deciding on the subjects and qualifications that suit them best and reflect the industry needs that provide clear learning pathways that take them beyond school to college, university and on into meaningful employment
- Assist young people in making critical decisions about jobs, courses and career pathways, including access to career guidance informed by current labour market trends

How We Can Work With You
The SkillsHouse CTE Curriculum and Pathways Team provides specialist curriculum consultancy enabling education providers to embed the Bradford Careers and Technical Education (CTE) Framework; the practice of teaching specific career-related skills from primary to secondary through to post-secondary education.
This is achieved by co-designing and delivering sector-based programmes of learning in partnership with employers which are embedded into the education establishment's subject curriculum to develop learner's understanding and progression into high-demand sectors and occupations. As a result, technical and essential skills are developed in a sequential and timely manner.
Learners are able to explore different career pathways to gain real-world knowledge and experience needed to compete and achieve success in education and work.
CTE Leads staff are available to visit schools to develop school offers, which can include:
- Reviewing your school’s curriculum and identifying relevant careers and technical education activities and opportunities to partake in.
- Co-design and piloting Sector Programme delivery in collaboration with local employers to address skills gaps.
- Supporting your careers leaders to build effective programmes of careers learning, developing evidence to support achievement of Gatsby Benchmarks and careers quality marks.
- Understanding how your learners can engage with Cities of Learning Digital Skills Badges to accredit their learning and improve their employability.
