Introduction to Medicine Day

Health and Social Care, Adult & Child Services

The Careers & Technical Education team at SkillsHouse in conjunction with Bradford Teaching Hospitals are leading the way in creating opportunities for local students, to help them secure a place at highly competitive medical schools through a ‘Introduction to Medicine Widening Participation’ course. A bumper cohort of 35 young people from across Bradford District joined us for the day-long course on May 11 at Bradford Royal Infirmary’s Field House.

The day offered students an early insight into both the patient’s journey and provided a hands-on approach to clinical skills stations. Students also talked to eight foundation doctors and medical students, as well as more experienced clinicians across the Trust.

Students received lots of top tips about a successful application to study medicine and had chance to sample exciting clinical skills in afternoon workshops. Colleagues from across the Trust played a pivotal part in facilitating the inspirational course that was hailed a great success by attending students.

School student: “It was great and helped me to make my decision of applying to medicine".

School student: “Thank you to all of the staff and medical students who helped out throughout the day, it is massively appreciated.”
