Schofield Sweeney Site Visit

As part of the Public Services and Law board focusing on the Legal Services career pathway, Schofield Sweeney has worked in partnership with the Careers & Technical Education (CTE) team to organise a site visit to their firm for New College year 12 students aspiring to have a career in the legal profession.

Schofield Sweeney helped influence curriculum of Law at New College Bradford by laying out the key skills required by an employer.  Part of the skills gaps identified by the firm was the awareness of local law firms and the awareness of Apprenticeship opportunities in a legal profession.

Working with Schofield Sweeney, CTE organized 2 insight days in March 2024 for young people from New College Bradford to learn more about application/recruitment process incorporating a visit to Schofield Sweeney’s offices in Bradford.  The insight visit consisted of partners/colleagues/current apprentices speaking about their personal journey/experiences providing the college students real insight into the role and having the opportunity to ask questions.

Neil Towse, HR Director at Schofield Sweeney, explained the recruitment process and the key skills they are looking for to be successful at their firm. Neil stated, ‘the pass rate of Solicitor Apprenticeship compared to University graduates is 8% higher and as time passes, 8% will grow due to knowledge level and as experience is applied in a real working environment’.

Apprenticeships are a great starting point on someone’s career journey that combines real work with a qualification. You will learn new skills, earn a salary, and get nationally recognised qualifications.

As part of the visit New College attendees received a digital badge endorsed by Schofield Sweeney, details of which can be found here.

Special thanks to Neil Towse and his team for supporting the 2 insight days for New College students, they have certainly inspired future generation of legal professionals.
