Got a health barrier and looking for work?

Connect to Work is a free employment programme funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and delivered by SkillsHouse.

We help people in the Bradford district who have a disability, health condition or other barriers to find and keep work.

You will be given an Employment Specialist Adviser, who will meet with you to help you find a job.

How this Programme Works

Step 1 - We get to know you

You need to fill in the Expression of Interest form at the bottom of this page.  If you need any help to fill out the form, you can call us on 01274 437373 or email shconnect2work@bradford.gov.uk

If you're eligible for the programme, you will be linked to an Employment Specialist Adviser  who will phone you or organise a meeting in person.

Your adviser will talk to you about:

  • The support you will receive
  • Your current situation
  • Your job history
  • The kind of work you want

They will listen to you and help you with your next steps.

Step 2 - Regular help

You will meet with your Adviser regularly - it's really important you keep in touch with them.

Meetings can be near your home or somewhere else you feel safe.

  Your Adviser can help you:

  • Set job goals
  • Write or improve your CV
  • Prepare for interviews
  • Build your confidence and skills
  • Try short work tasters

Step 3 - Looking for a job

When you're ready, we will help you to look for jobs.  We will help you to:

  • Find suitable jobs
  • Fill in application forms
  • Prepare for interviews

Your Adviser will support you all the way.

Step 4 - Help when you start work

When you get a job, we will still be here to help you. We can support you whilst at work. We can also help your employer if needed.

If you join while unemployed, you can get help for up to 12 months.

Who can join?

You can join if you:

  • Live in Bradford
  • Are 18 or over
  • Have a health condition, disability or other barriers to work
  • You are not working or might lose your job

If you're from Bradford, we can also support:

  • Care leavers or care experienced individuals
  • Victims and survivors of domestic abuse
  • Former members of the Armed Forces
  • People who care for others

If you would like to learn more about this support or speak to a member of our team, please contact us at SHConnect2Work@bradford.gov.uk or phone 01274 437373 to speak to one of our friendly team members.
