Empowering Communities Through Employment: Jobs and Training Fair at Lower Grange Community Centre

On Monday, 22nd September 2025, SkillsHouse  delivered a Jobs and Training recruitment fair in collaboration with the Lower Grange Community Centre, bringing together local employers, training providers, and jobseekers from the surrounding community. The venue manager Alex Dilger was supported by SkillsHouse business engagement officers and a dedicated team of volunteers who ensured a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all attendees.

The event was designed with three outcomes in mind:

  • To help make direct connections between local jobseekers and employers
  • To promote access to training and development opportunities
  • To benefit the community through stakeholder networking

A total of 19 employers attended from sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, tourism and construction, showcasing a wide range of job opportunities to more than 120 jobseekers who came to find out about opportunities available to them in the local area.  Local councillors and ward officers were also in attendance, giving their support to the event and acknowledging its benefit to the community.

The event was a huge success, with many jobseekers submitting applications on the spot - to either job vacancies or training opportunities.

Matthew, from the RAF Careers Engagement Team, said "Thank you for the opportunity to attend and speak with people about career opportunities within the RAF. This helps with breaking down misconceptions as we recruit upto the age of 48 and some jobs need no qualifications and experience is not required in 90% of roles.  Excellent work from Skillhouse & all staff are professional and welcoming.
Thank you"

The overwhelmingly positive feedback from both participants and employers has laid the groundwork for future initiatives. Plans are already underway for additional fairs and workshops to maintain this momentum and continue supporting the community.  Look out for details of our next fairs!
