Successful Recruitment for National Science & Media Museum
In May 2025, Skillshouse Bradford collaborated with the National Science & Media Museum to support a major recruitment campaign for Casual Explainer roles. These new roles were created to support the launch of their new galleries which were due to open in July 2025.
The museum aimed to recruit 15 people to enhance visitor experience and provide an enriching educational experience.
SkillsHouse Resourcing Officers lead the recruitment initiative, which included interactive workshops designed to prepare candidates for the roles. These sessions provided useful information about museum's values, the responsibilities of the Casual Explainer position, and essential skills for the role. The employer also attended one of the workshops which gave the candidates a good insight into the organisation's culture and expectations.
From a pool of 20 suitable candidates, 14 were invited to attend a recruitment workshop delivered by SkillsHouse and the employer. This session not only assessed the candidates' suitability for the position but also established their interest and commitment. All 14 candidates showed a strong engagement with the process and were invited to the Museum's official assessment day on-site.
Both employer and candidate feedback about the SkillsHouse recruitment process was overwhelmingly positive, and we are pleased to report that 4 of our identified candidates were successful in securing a Casual Explainer position with the National Science & Media Museum.
This successful collaboration not only addressed critical staffing needs within the National Science and Media Museum but also highlighted SkillsHouse’s commitment to delivering effective, targeted recruitment solutions.
